Ricardo Cordero and Marco Hernández remain strong in their pursuit of a seventh victory in La Carrera Panamericana after holding onto first place for a second consecutive day, increasing their lead to 24 seconds.
Aboard “El Malditillo”, the defending champions dominated the Guanajuato stages, despite the very slippery pavement. Meanwhile, Hilaire and Laura Damiron continue to fight to regain the lead they held during the first days of the race, as do Doug Mockett and Manuel Iguiniz, who complete the top three in the Turismo Mayor category.
Although Benito Guerra Jr. and Erwin Coronel experienced some engine problems with car 521 and lost their exhaust midway through a speed section, they remain in first place in their category, Histórica B Plus, followed by Karlo Flores in car 550 and Alejandro Campos in 522.
Seventeen-year-old Carlos “Char” García, the youngest driver in this race, has stood out with an impeccable performance. In his Panamericana debut, he continues to lead the Turismo de Producción category. Meanwhile, Porsche driver Diego Candano remains at the top of the Histórica B category.
Silao experienced its first official Panamericana reception at the Jardín Principal, where a replica of the Lancia car is displayed in honor of driver Felice Bonetto, who passed away in this city in 1953.
After noon, residents enthusiastically welcomed the drivers and took the opportunity to get close to the classic and sports cars. Later, the race cars were taken to the Silao Fairgrounds, where the mechanics worked at full speed for about an hour to continue their journey toward the final speed sections.
Around 5:00 p.m., the crews arrived at Guanajuato’s Historic Center, next to the Juárez Theater, where hundreds of fans welcomed them warmly.
