A major issue that the FIFA World Cup often faces is the illegal resale of tickets, as well as fraud derived from this activity. For this reason, the Government of Mexico and the top governing body of football are developing an official application that will allow the legitimate resale of tickets.

César Iván Escalante Ruiz, head of Profeco, was in charge of announcing this news during the morning press conference in the Treasury Room of the National Palace, at the request of President Claudia Sheinbaum.

“We are working with FIFA on the design of a ticket resale platform with the aim of combating scalping. This platform will allow fans who will no longer use their tickets to make them available so that someone else can purchase them at fair prices”.

The official also explained in a brief but meaningful statement that “a few months ago, an agreement was reached with the organizer to ensure that tickets could be sold on a platform available in Spanish and in Mexican pesos, as established by the Federal Consumer Protection Law”.

Mexico is entering the final stretch as it prepares to host the FIFA World Cup 2026, an event that will mark a historic milestone by making the country the first to host the world’s biggest football celebration three times. It is also expected to generate an economic impact estimated at up to 3 billion dollars.
