Madrid. **Mexican photographer Graciela Iturbide** and the **National Museum of Anthropology** (MNA) — represented by its director, Antonio Saborit, and the chair of its board, Madeleine Bremond — received the **Princess of Asturias Award** at the Campoamor Theater in Oviedo. Iturbide was honored in the Arts category, while the museum received the award for Concord.
In her speech, Graciela Iturbide **paid tribute to Indigenous peoples and Mexican syncretism**, while clarifying: “I have never constructed an image”.
> "The most recognized part of my work portrays the Indigenous world of Mexico. I have dedicated my best years to it, and through it I have traveled much of my country — especially remote and disadvantaged regions where Indigenous peoples survive and resist. However, like the vast majority of Mexicans, I am the result of the fusion between two cultures, two worldviews that have almost always been in conflicto".
Not all honorees are given the opportunity to deliver a speech, but among those who did was photographer **Graciela Iturbide**, who said:
> "I am grateful and deeply honored, but my merits do not go beyond these few centimeters of illusion, because there is no doubt: photography is not the truth, but the interpretation of a reality that the artist apprehends according to their knowledge, emotions, dreams, and intuition".
