**Mexico’s cultural sector contributed 865.682 billion pesos** to the national economy in 2024, representing 2.8 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), according to data from the **National Institute of Statistics and Geography** (Inegi).
In fact, Inegi’s figures show that the **cultural sector’s GDP grew compared to 2023**, when it totaled 820.963 billion pesos (2.7 percent of GDP).
## Areas with the Highest Contribution to GDP
1. Handicrafts: 18.4 percent
2. Digital content and Internet: 18.1 percent
3. Audiovisual media: 17.2 percent
4. Design and creative services: 14.5 percent
Although the cultural sector accounted for 2.8 percent of the national GDP, each state showed different levels of contribution. In 2024, Mexico City, Guerrero, Michoacán, Morelos, **Oaxaca**, Puebla, Quintana Roo, Tlaxcala, and Yucatán recorded a cultural sector participation **above 2.8 percent**.
The areas with the highest growth in the cultural sector were **music and concerts** (14.9 percent); design and creative services (7.7 percent); and visual and plastic arts (5.3 percent). By contrast, the areas with the greatest declines were **handicrafts** (3.8 percent) and audiovisual media (3.6 percent).
Economic activities within **the cultural sector generated 1,430,528 jobs in 2024**, equivalent to 3.5 percent of total employment in the national economy. Compared with 2023, this represented a decrease of 0.2 percent — a loss of 2,852 jobs.
