During the commemoration of the **Day of the Afromexican People**, Governor Salomón Jara acknowledged the cultural, social, and historical contributions of this community, and announced the organization of the Guelaguetza Afro in the Costa region.
The governor did not reveal the date but stated that his administration **will continue promoting political participation** and the full exercise of the rights of the Afromexican people.
> “No transformation can exclude those who have built, through their work, art, and history, the heart of Oaxaca. The Afromexican people are not the past — they are the present and the future”.
The gathering took place in **Santo Domingo Armenta**, where members of the Afro community celebrated their identity and cultural heritage through music, dance, and poetry.
**Juana Hernández López**, head of the Secretariat of Interculturality, Indigenous and Afromexican Peoples and Communities (SIPCIA), stated that this type of event strengthens social justice from an anti-racist and inclusive perspective.
## Day of the Afromexican People
**The Day of the Afromexican People of Oaxaca** was established on August 22, 2013, as formal recognition of the history and contributions of this population to the development of the state.
